Clinux

The digital dental industry relied on expensive, outdated CAD software that required powerful computers, extensive training, and costly licenses, making digital dentistry inaccessible to many. Clinux set out to change this by creating an intuitive, cloud-based platform that simplified crown design, making it affordable and easy to use for both experienced and novice users.

Role

As a UX/UI Designer, User Researcher, and Usability Tester, I worked closely with stakeholders and dentists to identify pain points and create a user-friendly solution. I led discovery workshops, usability testing, and competitor analysis to shape an accessible and efficient digital workflow.

Challenge

Traditional software required specialised training and costly hardware, limiting its adoption among smaller practices and less tech-savvy dentists. Clinux needed to streamline the process, ensuring that any dentist could scan, design, and mill crowns in-house without the steep learning curve or financial burden.

Process

I conducted user research with dentists at dental conferences and through direct interviews to understand their frustrations with existing tools. I prioritised the most critical usability issues, ensuring an evidence-based approach to designing a seamless and guided user interface.

Solution

I developed a five-step guided interface, reducing complexity while maintaining flexibility for advanced users. AI-powered automation streamlined crown design, interactive tooltips provided real-time assistance, and a pro mode allowed experienced users to bypass guided steps for faster workflows.

Outcome and impact

The redesigned platform significantly improved efficiency and user satisfaction, leading to faster task completion and better practice management. Clinux became a more reliable and user-friendly tool, helping dental teams work smarter and focus on delivering quality care.

Takeaways

Simplicity drives adoption - by reducing clicks and cognitive load, even highly technical processes can become widely accessible. Balancing automation with user control ensured Clinux met the needs of both novice and experienced users, leading to a scalable and impactful product.
