North Standard
After the merger of North P&I and Standard Club—two of the world’s largest maritime insurers - I was brought in as Lead UX Consultant on behalf of Revolution Growth. My role was to merge their outdated platforms into a single, streamlined experience that would serve a global user base with real-time data and regulatory information.
I facilitated workshops in London with stakeholders from both companies to align business goals with user needs. Researching over 20 user types, from shipowners to claims handlers, I developed a scalable information architecture and personalised dashboards that streamlined workflows while delivering vital maritime insights.
We needed to simplify complex regulatory data while keeping it actionable, ensuring efficiency for key tasks like vessel searches and compliance checks—where delays could have financial or legal consequences. The platform also had to support GlobeView, North Standard’s real-time maritime intelligence tool, which provided live fleet tracking, port updates, weather conditions, and regulatory news.
Through workshops and user research, I refined the platform’s structure to improve efficiency, accessibility, and navigation. By consolidating user personas, I designed dashboards that surfaced real-time data and administrative tools, ensuring a more intuitive experience. Streamlining key workflows, such as vessel searches and compliance checks, made critical tasks faster and more efficient. Personalised onboarding and dashboard features helped drive engagement and retention.
The final platform delivered an intuitive, scalable solution that balanced usability with complex data needs. A persona-driven IA ensured quick access to essential tools, while custom dashboards provided real-time maritime insights. Enhanced search and filtering improved efficiency, and a scalable design system maintained consistency across the platform.
The redesigned platform transformed North Standard’s digital presence, increasing engagement with dashboards and reducing time spent on critical tasks. User satisfaction improved, backed by positive post-launch feedback. By integrating real-time intelligence and personalised experiences, we positioned North Standard as a digital leader in maritime insurance.
This project reinforced the value of simplifying complex regulatory platforms through clear information architecture and strategic content reduction. It also underscored the importance of deep persona research in shaping user experiences for specialised audiences. Prioritising usability, efficiency, and personalisation, we created a platform that met business goals while elevating North Standard’s position in the industry.
